Lovely large bedroom with lovely views

        Looked a bit tired externally.

The place is very tired and needing some work to freshen up carpets were very worn along with the rooms being the rooms needing freshened up. The windows also need replacing and the roads into the place need resurfaced and the outside of thebuilding also needs work. The hotel is in beautiful surroundings and would benefit from money being spent on it it was a disappointment to see how run down the place was although my stay was comfortable I would have preferred to have paid a lot less .

The setting and area is spectacular

Nicely located within large private grounds at the edge of Loch Snizort. Good food in the evening.

Very old and run-down 3-star hotel, which was originally built as a hunting lodge by the MacDonalds (in 1870!) . The superior room size-wise was ok but with very (too) old furniture at far too high room tariff, as there did not seem to be any maintenance of the building/rooms (holes in the bath room wall, leaky window frames), the entire hotel requires complete modernisation, renovation, repair (walls in the whole stairhouse, stairs, doors, windows /frames , plasterwork) and also thorough cleaning in the whole building. Red dingy sofa at reception desk to be removed . There is no lift, but far too many stairs to the rooms. Little choice on tv channels, no international news channel (I.E. bbc worldwide) . Only very limited Continental Breakfast choice , most of it pre-packed (Alpen, marmalade, no natural yoghurt) red dyed "salami", logistic of breakfast-service to be improved: first eggs were served and became cold, then toast (portioned) finally was served ... - Staff at reception desk is talking meanwhile guests are waiting for breakfast to be ordered, guests have to remind for fresh supply at the breakfast buffet. There is no manager visible, who could/should run the "organization". Only one small towel dryer for 4 (bath-/hand-) towels. Mixing taps to be installed in the sink of bathroom. When going to bed, we had to remove 6 cushions and to place them on the buffer storage such as 1 chair and/or desk; space which we needed for our luggage (3 weeks travelling needs more than 1 suitcase). No shoe cleaning machine identified.

Nice building and great location. Staff very friendly and helpful. Premises very clean and well kept.

Room was nice but cramped - had a room that had a bathroom retrofitted which made the room small and awkwardly shaped.

The hotel is located in picturesque surroundings and offers many delightful areas to relax and unwind. Very attentive staff. A total experience.

This really is a "country house" of the type very wealthy people owned & used as a hunting lodge in the past. Beautiful wooden paneling & ceilings. Lovely areas to sit inside and out. The setting is wonderful - overlooking the loch with lovely river running along the hotel's (bumpy) road. Extensive grounds with a nine hole golf course and a short stroll to the small St Columba's island on the river which has ancient ruins & is really pretty. Food in the dining room was good standard & the Sunday lunch deal was very reasonable. We came on the ferry from Harris to Uig - only a short drive from this side of the island. We stayed in the McCleod room which overlooked the gardens at the front: impressive with its four poster bed & heavy drapes.

Our one disappointment was that we wanted to go fishing - the hotel has their own ghillie (who tried to be very helpful & was easy to get on with)....HOWEVER This was the Isle of Skye & it was a Sunday & there is no freshwater fishing permitted anywhere on the island on the Sabbath - not even for trout (we were aware salmon fishing isn't permitted anywhere on a Sunday in Scotland). Pity, as it was a glorious day & we could see fish rising in the river on our walk to St Columba's island.

Relaxed atmosphere; spacious room; good food

The golf course looked very tired,as did the outside of the hotel. The driveway approach was potholed beyond 'rustic'. I had to point out that I had not been charged for a bottle of wine - what a mug! The bar menu was a bit limited.

Very remote peacefull location, Exeptional stasff, superb food and very comfortable rooms.

The staff were fantastic. Very attentive and made us feel very welcome. Great place for a stop over on your tour of Skye or further travel to the Hebredes. Loved the huge pool table in the entertainment room.

The hotel is a bit weathered, but has a lot of charm. The dinner was a little bit pricey, but as you are not on the mainland, it does seem reasonable to pay a little more for the convenience of the restaurant being on site.

The hotel was relaxed and lovely. The staff was friendly.

The toilet in our traveling companion's room made a very loud sustained noise when flushed. It could be heard several rooms away. At dinner 3 of us ordered steak and it was the toughest steak we ever tasted. When we told our waitress she removed the charges from out check. Everything else about our stay was lovely.

The staff were very nice, the bars, dining room, Lounge were very cosy.

Annexe where we were first put, asked to be moved, they had one room spare in the main house, bathroom let it down very much, bedroom well, all I can say it was okay.

      • Older travelers
        8.2

The hotel was very quiet (it was the first week in January with snow on the ground) with few guests but the standard of service was still excellent. The public rooms where warm and welcoming and the breakfast set us up for the day. The views from the hotel grounds where magnificent and having experienced it in the snow we are looking forward to seeing it again in the summer. We've already recommended the hotel to friends.

The hotel was closing for some work the following week which meant they offered a very limited dinner menu which was disappointing and maybe should have been mentioned when we booked although we did only book B&B! The dinners we had where delicious.

      • Group of friends
        7.4

Good food, pleasant staff, nice location

bathrooms need upgrading(In all three rooms we stayed). The hotel was not busy and we would have welcomed to have sea views (only 1 room had them). Whisky too expensive (5£, in the previous hotel were we stayed from Best Western same whisky was 2.50£).

      • Group of friends
        10.0

Fantastic rooms, 4 poster beds, modern spacious en suite with superb views. Dinner in restaurant was excellent and choice at breakfast extensive and included local produce. Overall exceeded our expectation, wished we could have stayed a second night.

      • Group of friends
        4.2

        The food was ok

No service. No hot water. Chaos when fire alarm went off - no staff presence/unable to turn off alarm when finally showed up - it was each man for himself - probably a dangerous place to stay.
